Welcome to the (future) Takahagi Disc Golf Club!
We are happy to have you!
As you may know, Takahagi has had a history of disc golf, with the Daishinen Disc Golf Course being one of the first in Japan. Unfortunately it was closed and the course dismantled many years ago. We are committed to bringing back the tradition of disc golf in Takahagi with a new course or perhaps even courses.
Why should we bring back disc golf to Takahagi?
Tradition. Takahagi was once one of the premier disc golf locations in Japan, even hosting national disc golf events.
Economics. Takahagi is promoting itself as an outdoor activities hub. Disc golf is a very outdoor sport, suitable for wide open spaces. People travel long distances to play disc golf at Hitachi Seaside park. Many of the regular players there have expressed interest in trying new courses, if they were available. Thus, tourists would come to Takahagi. Equipment sale and or rental at Takahagi campsites is also a possible source of revenue. Two day tournaments also attract large numbers of players, many of whom would stay in hotels and use restaurants in the city. A recent tournament in Oyama, Tochigi attracted 200 players from all over Japan.
Fitness. Walking, throwing discs, fresh air… all these are good for the health of our citizens. And they are all very accessible to citizens of all ages. One of the fastest growing groups of disc golfers is seniors trying out new hobbies.
Ease of Entry. Even beginning players can enjoy their first game, and disc golf has a low equipment cost for players.
There are four quite large parks in the city suitable for disc golf, as well as our magnificent beaches.
Hananuki Sakura Park. An underutilized park just below Hananuki Dam, we believe it would be just right for a disc golf course. A combination of trees and open areas could make a challenging course.
Hananuki Furusato Nature Park: Wooded area in a campground, ample parking, plenty of trees and established pathways.
Forest Park: Located in Akiyama, it is another underutilized park that could be revitalized with a disc golf course on the outer ring from the athletic course. Its location in the city proper is also a big drawing point, with bus access (Noruru).
Sakura Space Park: With wide open spaces and trees, it is ideal for a course when not utilized for events and festivals.
The beach. A seasonal or temporary course could be erected on the beach for disc golf events. It could be arranged so that it doesn’t interfere with the swimming beaches in the summer season.
We can make a course with a minimum of funds. The main expenses are the baskets. The club and volunteers can help install the baskets and set up signs and tee markers. In the beginning, we imagine one course, with nine baskets, and two tees for each to make an eighteen hole pilot course.
The courses can be temporarily suspended during peak flower viewing or other special events that might attract large numbers of visitors to the parks.
